52 Week Challenge – Week 4 Pink

This weeks theme of “pink” was my excuse to get myself some pretty pink tulips. ;)  They definitely have me longing for spring!  Since we are so close to Valentine’s Day I figured I would snap one of some candy hearts my kiddos left out.  Not terribly exciting but there is pink!

Now go check out Portland, Oregon photographer Marla Misclevitz’s take on pink!  :

Simply Splendid Images

Marla MisclevitzFebruary 8, 2012 - 1:00 pm

Love your photos this week Kate! The tulips are especially pretty and the hearts are fun, but both are bright and cheery. =)

amyFebruary 8, 2012 - 1:31 pm

sunshine in a blog post :) such bright, fun, happy shots. you give inanimate objects life!

elaineFebruary 8, 2012 - 2:13 pm

Your photos are so sharp, I love your colors as well.

lauren martin gauthierFebruary 8, 2012 - 2:59 pm

such HAPPY images (a bit of a departure from my pink photos…LOL!) and i have to ask…is that a backdrop, or do you have cheery pink-and-white polka dot wallpaper in your house?!?

Laurie SchultzFebruary 8, 2012 - 8:19 pm

This post makes me happy…it’s so girly and cheery! …I LOVE that vase/pitcher so pretty!

KarenFebruary 8, 2012 - 9:01 pm

The tulips are so pretty – lighting, backdrop – it all makes a pretty pink picture.

Terry McKaigFebruary 9, 2012 - 1:28 am

I love tulips! : ) fun photos!!

esther alvarezFebruary 9, 2012 - 4:24 pm

Me encantan las fotos. Son muy dulces y con unos colores preciosos.

Before/After….

I am one of those mom’s who prefers her kiddos hair on the longer side but let’s face it…their hair was way out of control and long overdue for a haircut….All three of my kiddos decided they wanted their hair cut much shorter than I would have preferred but I gave in….It’s only hair after all and it will grow (I hope)… :)

I know the grandmas will be happy about the haircuts! :)

ChelseyFebruary 2, 2012 - 2:39 pm

So cute!

Terry McKaigFebruary 9, 2012 - 1:29 am

I like the short cuts….such cute boys no matter what! : )

52 Week Challenge – Week 3 Emotion

Unfortunately I could not get my act together to shoot new images this week for my 52 Week Challenge – Emotion but thought I would share this one as an alternative.  The “emotions” in this photo make me smile.  Here we have one kiddo who seems sweet and innocent, one who looks a little crazy with laughter (because she thought it was funny to drive her little brother CRAZY) and the little guy who is terribly upset (because of his big sister).  This is pretty typical in my house… There is always one innocent party, one guilty and one overly emotional!:)

*F.Y.I.  all Izzy did to set her little brother off was call him a “cutie pie”.  Apparently he did not appreciate the compliment. ;)

Be sure to head on over to  the fabulous Michaelle Janet - Houston/Cypress, Texas Photographer’s site to check out her “Emotion” post!

CarrieFebruary 1, 2012 - 11:51 am

Your photo made me smile too! I have a girl and two boys and this is usually how my photos of them turn out. Thanks for sharing your emotions:)

TracaFebruary 1, 2012 - 12:45 pm

That is hilarious! Great capture!

Sarah PhillipsFebruary 1, 2012 - 12:56 pm

Haha! The whole range of emotions in one image!

amyFebruary 1, 2012 - 12:56 pm

MarlaFebruary 2, 2012 - 2:21 am

You have such a lovely family Kate! And the photo is so pretty aethetically, but your poor kiddo! Must be tender hearted, or at least that day!

KarenFebruary 6, 2012 - 2:36 pm

You have caught a perfect moment! This is really awesome that you captured so many different emotions in one moment. Love it.

Just Messing Around….

This time of year when life is a bit quieter…I like to actually give my kids a break (not a long break) from the camera and photograph a few random images….well here is a bit of random for you….thought they were fitting for this time of year.  Have a wonderful weekend! :)

esther alvarezJanuary 29, 2012 - 8:44 am

Beautifull!

kmJanuary 31, 2012 - 12:39 am

just LOVELY!!!! Aren’t “things” so much easier to take pictures of???

52 Week Challenge – Week 3 Bokeh

Bokeh

Taken from Wikipedia:
In photography, bokeh, boh-kay and also heard as BOH-ka is the blur or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or “the way the lens renders the out-of-focus points of light”.
Here is my version of Bokeh… is it highly original?  Not so much…does it represent “bokeh”??? I think/hope so. :)
Now head on over to the fabulous Elizabeth McDonough at www.elizabethmcdonoughphotography/blog/ to check out her interpretation of this week’s challenge!
Laurie SchultzJanuary 25, 2012 - 8:42 am

That is awesome! I love how big your bokeh is!

lauren martin gauthierJanuary 25, 2012 - 9:11 am

i just LOVE the contrasting colors in this shot, and the way the lights look like they are steam rising up out of your coffee cup! beautiful work once again, kate!

MichaelleJanuary 25, 2012 - 1:34 pm

Well shoot, I think this is highly original. You should take a framed one to your local coffeehouse with some of your cards!

BeccaJanuary 25, 2012 - 1:35 pm

I love how the lights look they they are floating right out of the cup. This is beautiful!

amyJanuary 25, 2012 - 2:06 pm

this is incredible, so creative, so beautiful visually – the contrasting colors, textures, brightness, magical feeling of the bokeh. you did a lovely and original job, kate!

TracaJanuary 25, 2012 - 3:41 pm

What great use of placed/controlled bokeh! And the colors in this are just to die for! Love.

LauraJanuary 25, 2012 - 4:55 pm

Stunning image! Love the steam…my favorite part!

MarlaJanuary 25, 2012 - 6:54 pm

I actually think this is very creative! I love it!! How fantastic that the light bokeh in the back looks as if it’s coming out of the cup with the steam. Cleaver!

AmandaJanuary 25, 2012 - 8:40 pm

LOVE this!

RachaelJanuary 25, 2012 - 9:52 pm

KarenJanuary 25, 2012 - 10:33 pm

I’m giggling because I thought of this same concept for this week (but didn’t do it). And you carried it out so beautifully. Love the red.

Grandma JoanJanuary 26, 2012 - 1:09 pm

Darling, I can’t believe that this is the first time I’ve looked at your blog since Christmas! But I get to see all the wonderful photos at once. And I agree with you, the new camera is fabulous! I’d love to have some “in the moment” shots of the kids… And the “eyes” picture of Izzy is beautiful — just like every other photo of her! Have I told you lately that I really appreciate everything you do? Love you lots!!

MeganJanuary 26, 2012 - 7:39 pm

Absolutely love this image, love the red. Great job Kate!

kmJanuary 31, 2012 - 12:40 am

dazzling!!!!!! I think this needs to be on a billboard or be on a post card… :)

Birthday….

Well today is my 43rd birthday and I have to say it’s been pretty great! :)I am so thankful for my wonderful family and amazing friends!

One of my New Year’s resolutions this year (o.k. every year) is really trying to capture moments and not just set up shots of my kiddos.  I get so frustrated with myself that I feel this need that every photo has to look great (clothes, hair, etc..) and in the meantime I am missing out on capturing real moments of my kids.  I am not one to drag my main camera around with me everywhere so my wonderful husband took it upon himself to get me a fabulous point & shoot for my birthday!  I am so excited to use it!

You may now start seeing some less than fabulous photos on my blog shot with my new camera but I am hoping to capture the little, everyday moments with my kiddos. :)

A few fun birthday gifts…

1. wine for this evening…yay!

2. new lip gloss…thank you “J”!!!  LOVE this gift!!!

3. cake pops from my 4 year old (which of course I purchased);)

kmJanuary 23, 2012 - 6:19 pm

WHAT LOVELY LOVELY birthday gifts!!! I am so thrilled that you are going to capture EVERYDAY moments ALONG WITH your wonderfully styled photo shoots. WIN WIN!!! I am so looking forward to your year long project with your new camera… and my it is cute! I hope you have the most amazing year ever! HAPPY 43!!!!!!!!xoxoxoxo

esther alvarezJanuary 23, 2012 - 6:22 pm

Muchas felicidades! Que tengas un año y muchos más magnífico.

JodiJanuary 23, 2012 - 7:12 pm

Happy Birthday to fabulous you … looks like you’ve had a pretty special day!!! Can’t wait to see all of your “everyday” shots! Cheers to celebrating many more! xoxo

Having Some Fun….

When it’s cold outside and business doesn’t pick up until spring what is a girl to do????  Craft projects of course!!  I have been busy making cute Valentine’s Day hats (pattern can be found at the fabulous Snazziedrawers), knitting up hats and scarves galore, trying to learn how to sew (hoping to share some finished projects soon) and painting little wooden people for my kiddos the first set is supposed to be me and my hubs (per my daughters request) and the second set is supposed to be the Harry Potter trio, they are a bit sloppy…. I do not claim to be even remotely good at any of these crafts (especially the painting of wooden people) but I am having lots of fun!!

Enjoy your weekend!:)

Kirsty-Abu DhabiJanuary 20, 2012 - 12:10 pm

Love them!! That wool looks just gorgeous – and we have a set of wooden figures that need painting too – you’ve inspired me!!

kmJanuary 23, 2012 - 6:21 pm
